Difference between car brake lining and motorcycle brake lining

Can some one please explain what the difference between both is? I once had an “old school” drum brake workshop in my area that told me guys who machine and re-line car drums will not do this correct to our drums as these are different jobs. Unfortunately they don’t exist any more. I'm asking as I w...

How does the engine breather works on a R51/3?

Dear all,
I will appreciate any explanation of how the oil engine breather works on a BMW R51/3 engine. The mechanism (a disk, a spring and a plate?) is mounted on the Aluminium timing gear. Thanks a lot in advance,
Michael Steinmann.

Re: Weak ignition spark, engine does not start

Hi there Adrenalin, You have exactly the kind & model of machine I have, and exactly the problem I faced a year ago. If you replaced the sparkplug with a new matching one and still nothing happened, and you are 100% sure that the cylinder compression is ok, then it could be that the magneto nee...

Best site to buy electric cables & stuff

Hello. I want to rebuild the electric wiring on my bike and would like to get recommendations for businesses in CH or DE that sell overseas via internet. Apparently I will need a few meters from each color and not complete rolls.
Thank you in advance. Michael Steinmann.

R51/3: Engine identification and strange plate fitted to it:

Hello to all. I received an R51/3 (?) engine, stamped 530294. Air Pump.

Hello. I am asking for a recommendation for a good hand/foot operated air pump for our 19" wheels. I can not hold an air compressor. A small pump that can be taken with me to the road will be a preference but not a must. Thank you all in advance. Michael.

Magnetic Oil Drain Plug

Can some one please tell me if the original plug that is fitted in my R51/3 is magnetic? Is the one that Mark Huggett has on his shop magnetic? Is it a magnetic plug or a normal one with a magnet fitted on top? How long is the threaded section? Thanks in advance, Michael.

Engine Dead...

Hello everybody. First, I wish you all a happy new year. I have a problem with my R51/3 and will be grateful for any idea of what to try or do: After standing still for 1 year, I started the bike with 2nd kick (!). I rode it for 2 days, last one was yesterday. Every time it started without hesitati...

Would like to hear about methods of protecting the bike against thieves:

Hello to all and a happy new year. I own a BMW R51/3 and unfortunately, the bike is standing outside on the sidewalk, as there is no extra parking lot under my building. Beside of covering it, what do you suggest to do for protection? What kind of locks, how to lock it and more interesting: Can I b...

What kind of tire levers should I buy?

Hi. I intend to buy tire removing levers and noticed that there are in general 2 types: edged ones and rounded spoons-like ones. Which are better for my bike (R51/3)? Should I buy 2 or 3? I forgot to mention that I need compact ones, something I can take with me to the road. Thanks.
Michael.
