How can I set the timing on my r12 when I have no marks on the flywheel and would rather not take the head off. Is 12mm before tbc the correct position on the right cylinder to set the retard setting with the points just openning?

Hi,
I had my R12 magneto 'rebuilt' here in the UK but I still have problems starting the bike when hot and cold. Are new magnets available anywhere?
