Dynamo for R 24

Does anybody know what is the correct finish for R 24 dynamo unit and cover?

Is it black? silver?

The generator cover was painted black and the generators body was "silver" I'm guessing that the body was originally zinc plated and not painted silver. Maybe someone else knows for sure?
