What is the correct year model of this R60 US?

Post by Ruben »

Hello! According to Mobile tradition, my bike was manufactured in Dec. 1967 and was delivered to the US in Feb. 1968. Based on these facts, what is the correct year model of this bike? Thank you in advance! Ruben PS. Bought the bike with lost title.

Hello, usually, title's year coud be different that manufactury year. Usually it shows the commercial year.

You must check the practice in your own state.
Excuse my poor english.

I don't think there is a correct year.
If the bike had a continuous title history, it would keep whatever the first title said. It was probably first titled in the year it was first sold to an owner, in 1968.
But because the bike has no title, and because there is no year stamped on the ID plate, and because you have a statement from Mobile Tradition that the bike was made in 1967, I think your Dept of Motor Vehicles will want to use 1967 when you get a new title.

During this period, bikes were titled in the year they were sold. If your bike was not sold until 1969 then the year listed on the title would be 1969. As your bike was probably sold in 1968 I would use that year in getting a new title. I would strongly advise not to take the BMW certificate to the DMV. It does not prove ownership and will likely confuse matters. Unless your state is one that accepts a bill of sale for older vehicles you will have to present your DMV with a title assigned to you before the DMV will issue you a new title in your name. This problem can be solved by contacting one of the title companies listed on the www. One of the oldest is Broadway Title. The cost typically runs under $100. Good Luck, Steve

I bought two 1966 BMWs that had no titles. I obtained titles for both of them from International Title Service in the USA, by downloading forms from their website and sending them $75 per bike. This forum will not show URLs, so just go to Google dot com and do a search on Internationat Title Service.
