R51/2 handlebar levers
R51/2 handlebar levers
Did the R51/2 appear in two forms? One with inverted pivoted levers and one with normally pivoted levers. I saw these two different types in some photos.
Re: R51/2 handlebar levers
Hi Chen
The R51/2 had only normal pivotted levers on zinc die-cast Magura armatures mounted on a 22mm handlebar. Only the prewar BMW models had inverted levers mounted in the ends of 24mm handlebars.
Best regards,

Re: R51/2 handlebar levers
Mark is quite correct. However, early photos of the R51/2 show the pre-production machine fitted with inverted levers never fitted on to production bikes.
Re: R51/2 handlebar levers
My R51/2 is made august 1950 and has the handlebar levers as discribed by Mark. An older one, march 1950, i have seen did have the same.
But i have seen some differences between fuel tanks. On most pictures you see the tank with toolbox door pivot on the side and small kniepads. Mine has also the door pivot on the side but large kniepads as on a R51/3. Does someone know whether this is original?
Kind regards
Ivo
