Pinstriping

Post by s2airflow »

Hello,Could anyone assist re pinstriping on a 1937 R5?I have the widths of the lines i.e. 1.5mm & 5mm with a gap of 4mm but is the thin line on the outside or not-I seem to recollect seeing photos of the lines both ways. Also the front mudguard had traces of pinstriping. Were there lines on the mudguards or not?Thanks.Dave.

Dave...The front and rear fenders, "mudguards" in GB speak, were not originally pinstriped on the 1936-37 R5-R6. The original tank pinstrip is unusual in that the thin line is outside from the thick line. These are pecularities of the R5-6. I believe that the pattern of pinstriping for these models is a echo from contemporaneous competition BMW motorcycles. Your very fortunate to own an R5...
