It is retained by four metal tabs that are part of the headlight shell. Insert a fine screwdriver under each tab only enough so you can use a curved needle nose pliers on the tab to bend it some more release the plate or board.

Be very careful and do not bend the tabs any more than necessary. The tabs will break after a few bendings, from metal fatigue. The factory bent once to install, then you will bend twice to remove and reinstall. But you don't know if anybody else bent the tabs in the past 50 years. If you break a tab, there is no repair.

In fact the four tabs can be repaired as I have carried out the work successfully on several occasions, but it is a tricky job.

Shape a suitable piece of metal, drill and attach it to the original stub by means of a small pop rivet. A small diameter drill and the pop rivet tool will just fit between the stub and headlight rim, but you need to be accurate and careful. The new tab must not be too long or it may foul the board contact posts when bent over.

Alternatively,I'm sure a skilled welder could replace the broken tab, but the heat might damage the external paint finish. Still, what price a new shell?
