R50 1955 Price ?

Post by leptonic »

What the market price of a BMW R50 (transformed in a 600cm3) year 1955 in excellent condition (60 000km, beautifully restored in 2000) ? What is the best internet website for selling collection motorbikes ?

Thanks for any response.

Hi Leptonic,

However well restored your bike might be, the fact it no longer has matching engine and frame numbers because of the conversion will reflect in it's potential sale price. BMW owners are quite picky about such things.
Also affecting the price will be any accessories it has fitted, like your choice of saddle or seat, standard or large tank, D-engine bars or wrap-round bars, steel or alloy rims, etc., etc. Being a 1955 model, does it have the "bean can" rear light or the earlier Pope's Nose light? What documentation comes with the machine? Is the original engine available? All these will be factors to consider by any prospective buyer, so be prepared for some hard questioning!
A mean average price might be around £3,500 to £4,500 ($7 - 9,000), but remember it is only worth what anyone is prepared to pay for it. If no-one wants it, it's
worth nothing; if everyone wants it, you name your own price.
In the UK a monthly newspaper, "Old Bike Mart" is a good way to advertise, plus eBay of course. Word of mouth is also effective, so good luck.

Gerry.
