Getting history on a bike?

Post by tvrla »

I've got a 1977 R100RS that is a smoke red S in all respects but for the VIN.

I'm curious if it left the factory this way, since the conversion was so complete.

How does one go about accessing the records for a particular bike?

Thanks!

What do you mean when you say the motorcycle is red except for the VIN?

What part about the motorcycle do you think was "converted", and what makes you think this?

Which records do you wish to access? The record of previous owners who might have done the "conversion", or the factory record? I was able to trace back 5 previous owners of my bike to find out when certain things were done to it.

The BMW Historical Archive will tell you the month the bike was made and what distributor and country it was shipped to. I think that is all the factory knows.

Send your year and model and VIN to one of these addresses and ask the build date and delivery point:
