I have a 1965 R27 that will not recharge. The armature was not wound when I purchased
the motorcycle. I had it rewound and reglazed and installed with new springs and brushes
and a new voltage regulator as well. Now I don't know if the armature is the problem or
the voltage regulator. The motorcycle runs well otherwise. Can an armature not function
if it is wound correctly? Will all other electrical work if the regulator is bad. Any help
would be appreciated.

Where did you get the regulator and is it mechanical or electronic?
Most likely the voltage regulator is at fault, as they are prone to failure, especially certain of the new electronic ones. I have not heard of a way to test them. Not much can go wrong with the armature or rotor. The third component is the stator or four field coils that surround the armature - not much to go wrong there either unless they burn up like mine just did.
I suggest you try a new voltage regulator. Bobs BMW and Huggett only have electronic regulators now. They vary in materials and reliability, and I hear that Huggett has the best quality.

I think getting new voltage regulator will serve the cause..I have been facing similar problem and hope now I will be able to sort it out..

I think getting new voltage regulator will serve the cause..I have been facing similar problem and hope now I will be able to sort it out..
