What is the difference between
R60-R69/S crankcase (Kurbelgehäuse)
R60-R69/S crancshaft ( Kurbelwelle)
Is there also an optical difference between old and new R 69/S cylinders?
IN GERMAN:gibt es optisch leicht zu erkennende Unterschiede zwischen
1. R60-R69/S Kurbelwelle+gehäuse
2, 69/S Zylindern alter + neuer Bauart?
da die Alten am Fuß leicht abreissen
Difference R60-R69/S
Re: Difference R60-R69/S
The crankcase is the hollow aluminum casting, often called the block, that contains the crankshaft. The crankshaft revolves inside the crankcase.
I don't know if new R69S cylinders are still being made. The original R69S cylinders in the catalog here sound like they are New Old Stock (NOS). That means old cylinders that were never used. If so, there would be no difference between a new cylinder and and old cylinder.

Re: Difference R60-R69/S
pardon me and my pidgin-english,but my question should be: I own several crankcases (without numbers)+-shafts and cylinders, but I don"t know the difference between old typ`"s +new typ"s
(R60{without/2} and R60/2{or R69/S),the new crankshafts+cases should be longer (how much longer or total length?). The "new"cylinders(changed by BMW at about 1962)don"t burst at high speed, because they are thicker, but how can I see if it is a new or old one?
