Gas cap restoration

Post by Pierre Michaud »

I have an original gas cap which I am attempting to restore Circa 1960's. I am looking for a
replacement lock cylinder or one of the parts which happens to be the keyway
sleeve. This particular gas cap had the keyway offset from centre. Any ideas on
how I could obtain this replacement? My last option is just to put the broken
lock assembly back in as is. The lock assembly I am referring to is in the form
of a puck 45mm dia. by 9mm thick. The hole for the keyway is offset from centre
by about 13mm. There is a number stamped on the back 927 which is probably the
code for the key cut. I have the original key and it has the name HAMA embossed
on it. It also carries the number 927 stamped on it. Any ideas on how I can go
about finding replacement parts for this gas cap? If you have the Slabon
restoration guide, you will find the cap on page 177, from top left second one
down with BMW logo stamped on it.

Thanks for your help,

Pierre
