Mike,

There are many. One stands out above them all. Contact: Craig Vechorik, (Called "Vech"), owner of Bench Mark Works, web address at: http://members.aol.com/VechBMW/index.html

Good Luck!

I live in Louisville, KY so I just know some places within a day's drive of there:

BMW Motorrad of St Louis, Missouri: A dealer. Can do total restoration. Very expensive in my opinion.

Bob's BMW. A dealer. Probably like Motorrad as to cost.

Speed's Cycle: Can do total restoration. Reasonable in my opinion.
Speed's Cycle

Elkridge, MD 21227

Craig Vechorik: Specializes in the motors. Has done many complete restorations for himself, but I am not sure if he does transmissions, rear ends, body work, and the rest of restoration work, for the general public.

Guenther Wuest: Does complete restorations. Is doing my R27. He would subcontract such things as powdercoating, machine shop work, and tank painting. Extremely capable and very reasonable.

In looking for a restoration shop, it may be hard for them to estimate how much it will cost to restore your bike until they know what you want, and they have taken it apart. And no matter what you want, it is going to take about the same number of manhours for all the shops to do the same thing. Therefore a key determiner of restoration cost is the hourly labor rate. Of the several shops in my previous message, I was quoted rates of:
$30/hour or less.
Just over $40/hour
Over $50/hour
A dealer with a big shop in a metropolitan city is going to have a much higher rate than an individual in a backyard shop.
