Richard at Benchmark says the new orangy brown one they just sent is Nylon of unknown manufacturing date. It is to replace a similar looking one on a restored R27 that was squeaking, throwing pieces and ,presumably, allowing enough play for the outer metal ring to lightly groove the small housing. Driving without housing, and lubing with a clear, teflon additive grease, the squeaking has stopped and the play seems to have stabilized or decreased! (Which brings up the issue of elastomers swelling by absorbing water and or various solvents in various lubes.) I'd like to run with the housing, and don't want to install the new disc dry or with a deleterious lube. I've used straight silicone 5 brake fluid on some other elastomers (Toyota accelerator pump, Chevelle suspension bushings) simply because MityVac identifies it as what to use to clean questionable fluids out of their vacuum pump. ("Silicone Spray" is full of solvents I don't trust for elastomer/plastic compatability.) One Ebay seller regularly advertises a black disc without the 4 hole cutouts for "R25to R27", and I've read that R25 doesn't use the 4 spacer washers. So, I'm still in the dark and interested in any suggestions...particularly on lubes. This orangy brown disc just seems a little too hard for what it is doing.
