Steib torsion suspension and axle

I am in the midst of restoring a TR500 sidecar. How does one remove the torsion bar suspension unit from the chassis aside from removing large circlip before hand? The unit is most likely frozen with decades of rust buildup. Also, is the axle press fitted or does it have threads? the chassis I have has the BMW brake backplate and innerds so it may be a "Spezial" version. Finally the axle although true, is slightly looking downward on the suspension arm...is this by design or is this not normal? Could the slight twist be the result of an accident?
