Beemers in Bali

For those of you resident in South East Asia, Bali can hold many suprises as I recently discovered for myself.
There are 2 workshops that specialise in Vintage and classic BMW's. One of the workshops only handles
restorations and the other can do just about anything with a classic. At first impressions, these guys look like typical
Indonesian mechanics, tools and parts at ground level, dirt everywhere etc. - but they are FANTASTIC mechanics that make
do with virtually no modern equipment. However, if it comes to re machining parts etc, they are magic - and cheap. For
example, when the axle on sidecar of my 1952 R25 combination , went down the tubes, the mechanic machined a new one,
complete with LH thread and the job was completed in 6 hours - at a cost of US $ 39.00. That included labour.
The guy who does restorations has a R 27 for sale - Price is US $ 1200 - and it is in concourse condition.
Just thought you might like to know.
