Mark and folks,
I noticed today, my left Bing carburettor drips very slowly out of a brass colored device that lives in the very bottom of the carb bowl at the lowest point of the carb.
Does anyone know what this brass device is, and is for, and how I can stop the leak?

When it comes to bing carbs, no one can help you more than Charlie at Bing.
Charlie has helped me overhaul my R90/6
carbs and amazingly found a way to make threads, in my 1955 R50 carb bodies, when there was no metal to make thread from.

I just happen to be in the process of rebuilding a couple of BING carbs off a ’72 R75/5. I believe your drip point is the vent for the float bowl. Does the left side run rich when you first fire up the engine? Either there is a leak in the vent tube or the bowl is filling with gas for some reason. Number one on the suspect list would be debris in the needle valve seat. Next would be sinking floats. Both would allow the bowl to fill with gas that would eventually drip out of the vent and even into the venturi and beyond.

I had the same problem with my Bings. Simply replace the float valve needle(s) and the problem will go away. (I also used some lapping compound to deburr anything that might have muck-up the seat in the carb body.

Double check the float offset to spec. (15 deg)
