Regulator problems?

The generator red light in the headlight of my R50 uses to turn on, at high rpms, and only when the engine is hot (maybe a 20 minutes ride); do you think is regulator or dynamo fault?
Thanks.

Have a look at the carbon brushes first. If the brushes are worn or stick in the holdings or the springs are week or if the commutator is badly worn, they will bounce at high revs causing excessive sparking and loss of contact with the commutator. This will cause loss of charging and hence the red light will turn on. If all this is in order, than check the regulator and come back to me.

R27 - where is the regulator located ?

I've just bought a R27, a previous army bike,just ran 8000 km.
The read charging lamp is coming on and the battery is emptied.

I can run with no lights, even with the red lamp on.
I beleive I should start having a look at the regulator, but where is it located ?
Or better, could someone send me a diagram by mail or fax (+ 47 - 23 36 96 99 attn. knut nordhaug)
But really any tips or hints may help solving this.

I'm just going to order the tech. manual for my bike from Mark, but I just wait and see if I need some parts too.
