R27 and /2 transmission interchangeability

Can anyone tell me if an R27 transmission will work on a /2 or plunger frame boxer engine and final drive?

The notion would be to achieve a higher gearing and do away with the stock airbox for a "racer" replica.

Anyone tried this or have any ideas? If it can be done are any modifications necessary or is it a straight swap?

Hi there "J" Stracco

Forget fitting the R27 transmission box to an R51/3 or similar otherwise you will end up with 1 forward gear and 4 reverse gears if you manage the modification. The R27 housing and drive fittings will not fit on a /2 either. What you can do is exchange the insides of and R27 box and put it into a /2 housing. However, linking upto the final drive is another topic. It all depends on your own mechanical and machining skills. In theory everything is possible!

Goodluck!
