I am interested in any information regarding the R 26 "Swiss Edition". These bikes were imported by the Drenowatz agency in the late 1950's/early 1960's. The bikes were painted silver/grey with white pinstripes and a chrome tank. Any information regarding these would be greatly appreciated.

Search on the word Drenowitz. Then look at the post entitled "Re: Blue R26 in 1957". It is a message dated 31/8/1999 in which Mark answers your question and provides a photo.

I misspelled Drenowatz.

The first message I sent with the correct spelling of Drenowatz will not display for me. It says "server error". So here's another try.

Hi Bob,

Trie dto e-mail you directly but didn't work. Just thought I'd let you know about my experience with the 26 with the chromed tank, which was not a blue Swiss bike. Basically, I bought a black R26 that had this crazy chromed and black tank. Did some research, including talking directly to Mark Huggett when I was at his shop in Zurich. As I recall, he (and others) convinced me that the tank was not originally on my R26, but had available as an accessory from BMW for R27s (Mark correct me if I am misquoting you).....so, fairly stupidly in retrospect, I had it sandblasted and repainted along with the rest of my bike. There are some before and after pictures on my webpage:

Let me know if I can be of any more help!

Regards,

Chris:
Do you still have the "Swiss Blue" R 26? If so, could you forward any photos? Would you be interested in selling it?
