I am currently restoring a 1954 R 67/2 that had been converted to a 12 volt system. The bike has a Bosch HO/FDF/6/3 horn fitted instead of a HO/FDF/6/1 (as listed in Roland Slabons book "How to restore your BMW Motorcycle"). Is the horn fitted to my bike rated for 12 Volt use ?. Was it common practise just to use the standard 6v horns in 12 v conversions and just hope they didn't blow up ?.
The semiconducter regulator in my bike has unfortunately expired so I am unable to tell what voltage was supplied to the horn. The bike was however fitted with a 12V battery and 12 v lamps when I aquired it.
