I just recieved a used fender for my bike. The problem is that it is not like the original with a hinge at the rear. Instead it`s a one peace fender. It is an absolute original BMW with a pinestrip. it also looks exactly like one of R 51/3.
Is it possible that the factory had made two types of rear fenders?

Hi Chen,
Either the hinge has been removed and the rear flap welded up, or you do not have an original BMW fender. All plunger framed BMW motor cycles had a hinged rear flap.
You may consider it might not actually be designed for a BMW, but for another contemporary machine, although I could not name one without some facility to aid removal of the rear wheel. However, in view of the fact pre-'55 fenders are hard to find, and if you believe it looks right, then blow the inconvenience and fit it!
Anything can be painted with BMW-style lining.
