Locktite on taper of Output Shaft?

I am replacing the output shaft and flange of my 1968 R-60 transmission as it spun and ruined the
tapered surface. Would it be a good idea to use a bit of Locktite on the surface to increase the
grip of the new parts? I know the manual says clean the surface with alcohol...and install dry.

Joel,

If you clean the mating parts properly and tork to specification you should not add locktite. Putting in Locktite will only worsen the removal when the next guy wants to remove it to get into the trans. I almost broke my wrists when I removed mine even with the aid of a long lever bar and vise. I suspect yours was not properly tightened by previous owner.

Dear Joel
I would clean taper with spirit and make sure it is absolulely clean and unmarked ,If there are marks clean again with polishing paper til smooth. Reassemble as normal not forgetting to torque to the correct settings.
