Questions about rack and saddle

Mark,

It seems that the flat luggage rack 46 54 5 096 200 for the R27 does not have side braces like the same rack for the twins. Is the R27 rack strong enough to accept the pillion saddle 52 51 9 034 015, and is the fender alone strong enough to bear the weight of a passenger?

The catalog says that pillion saddle 52 51 9 034 015Ê is by Pagusa. This same part number in the catalog of Bobs BMW is for a Denfeld saddle. Are these two pillion saddles identical?

Will the folding Denfeld luggage rack 72 60 9 034 144 fit behind the 52 51 9 034 015Êpillion saddle?

Hi Allan
BMW specified "Pagusa" under that number which is also confirmed in the factory parts listing which I have a copy of. BMW drew about 60% of all the saddles from Pagusa (I've written about this subject many times in the restoration tips). The Denfeld saddles also fit, but were mainly aftermarket. You can even see the outline of the "Pagusa" logo in the exploded diagrams in the original BMW parts catalogues.

The rack on the rear fender from the models R26 and R27 did not have side braces or stays, and the whole structure is strong enough with the pillion saddle. The chrome Denfeld fold-up luggage carrier still fits with the pillion saddle, though it shares two common holes thus requiring slightly longer screws.

Best regards,

Mark
