Hello. I have an R26 and I have adapted a type 53 carb off an R60 as the original bing isn`t very reliable and I believe the type 53 is much more reliable, however, the bike starts and runs a little rough and when the engine almost stops or starts to splutter I have to operate the primer several times and it picks up again. Anyone know how to fine tune the type 53 carb?

The original carb should be perfectly reliable. I have worked on many standard R24-27 bikes, all fitted out as per factory spec. with no problems. The lack of a choke on the R26/27 models can be overcome by tickling the carb to flood point and cracking open the throttle. They soon settle down to a slow, even tickover.
Fitting a non-standard carb is really not worth the hassle. Just make sure the jets are okay, the float sound and the needle position as per the book and there should be no problem.
