David,
»» The bike is almost ready to drive ««
Congratulation !
I hope you'll post a picture of it in this forum when it'll be done.
»» Last question ««
A good «motard» never ends to improve is bike (or to try to).
»» What are the colors of the wires coming out of the 5 pt terminal (all ten up the
left and right sides)? ««
Front harness :
- Headlight #58 to «5 pole»'s 1st (top must), for tail light and side car's plug socket : black.
- Headlight #31 to «5 pole»'s 2nd, for tail light's ground : brown.
- Stop light switch to «5 pole»'s 3rd, for tail light's stop light : ?
(I don't know, but easy to identifiy, or to remplace.)
- Headlight #15/54 to «5 pole»'s 4th, for stop light switch : black-violet.
- Headlight's Neutral indicator to «5 pole»'s 5th (botom one), for Neutral contact : black.
Rear harness :
- «5 pole»'s 1st (top must) to tail light : ?
- «5 pole»'s 1st (top must) to side car's plug socket : black
- «5 pole»'s 2nd, to tail light's ground : ?
- «5 pole»'s 3rd, to tail light's stop light : ?
- «5 pole»'s 4th, to stop light switch : ?
- «5 pole»'s 5th (botom must), to Neutral contact : ?
I can't help you more for the rear harness. Mine is not original, and I don't have other notes. That's right that «Repair Manual» is not clear about it too.
But, it's easy to track these wires with a multi-meter, or simply a flash light.
As a mater of fact, if your rear harness is not in very good order, I'll advise you to remplace it before you get into troubles (short-circuits, for instance). Especialy the wire that pass through rear fender's chanel. Mark offer it on is OnLine Catalog. (But as I didn't know him yet when I rewired my bike, I just used a good, and supple, 3 wires 220Volt cable, such as used for any electrical appliances or lights.)
A message earlier in this forum talk about needs and risks of lubrication to help leading the cable trough the chanel, and to prevent further corosion. You might as well look for it. (Tray a search using «rear harness» as key words.)
Sincerly yours,
. damien

i do plan to rewire the rear harness at the end of this summer, as both fenders will be repainted and striped.
thanks again for your advice.
we should design a "bmw singles" webpage with members and such. there seem to be many bmw single owners who are invlved with mark's page.

David,
Sure, it'll be funny to have a page about Singles BMW.
I'll like to make one, if I had more spare time.
Any way, there is some link I've already found :

Gentlemen,
I agree, a dedicated BMW Singles site would be a wonderful thing. I'm a graphic designer and I've had some
experience with designing web sites (I'm helping my daughter with one right now), and I'd like to be involved.
Like everyone else, time is a major problem. Perhaps in the Fall? For now, some more links:
http://www.stephan.indosite.com/Riding/ ... ration.htm
http://209.204.232.96/februari.htm
http://www.vermischtes.de/bmw/bilder/r27-1.htm
http://www.beemergarage.com/ (not singles, but has useful service bulletins)
Have fun!
Dave

Dear Freinds,
Here we go for a BMW Singles HomePage project !
Dave, thanks for your proposal, and for the links.
(I'll also be off line for some weeks this summer, but we might talk about it later in september.)
One things we still need to define, it's the purpose of that webpage.
As far as I'm concerned, I think one need a site that provide a gatering of links and data specifics to BMW Singles, as well as owner's experiences.
But in no way it'll intend to replace Mark's wonderfull «Restauration Tips». It'll rather sort of complete it.
Who else vould like to joint this project ?
