pre-war overhead valve bmw's

I have several pre-war twins and I am trying to figure out how the upper end (rocker shaft, rockers, valves....) gets oil. There is no oil feed galley or even a drain like the /2's have. I see the bolt on the top of the valve cover and I think I remember reading somewhere that you remove this bolt for purposes of lubricating the top end. Is this correct? Putting oil in this hole won't land anywhere near the rocker shafts and I can't believe you have to partially fill the valve cover up with oil high enough to reach the rockers. Any body know any thing about this???Please write.
PS: Does anyone hace a trans main shaft or counter shaft for a R16 series I or II. I need 2nd gear( or r53,62,57 I think its the same)

Peter,

According to the R51/R66 owners manual the valve covers should be filled via the screw cover with 1/3 pint of motor oil.
