The Throttle slide on my carbs are not fitting properly. There are gaps between. When they are installed to the engine, the engine runs silly. Esipecially the right cylinder stalls. Does the gap with the body and the slide effects engine run? How can I restore a worn carb? Machining the body and enlarging the slide will work? What can effect the engine run if all the needle and parts except slide are new?

What model carburettors are you referring to?

I re-plated the slides on a set of 1939 Amal-Fischer R66 carbs with good results.

The problem with Bing carbs are that their bodies wear, so new slides only partially cure the problem.
However, they are very forgiving and they can be balanced satisfactorily even if badly worn. The carbs on my R50 rattle on tickover, but still let the engine run well with only a slight lack of performance.
Carefully balance the carbs with a vacuum gauge, ensure everything else is okay, such as jets, float level, timing and compression, and you shouldn't have a problem.
