I am now in the process of finding a Steib TR500 sidecar for my almost restored R69S for sidecar. One of my options is to purchase a repro in USA and another is restoring one that needs major work. With the cost of either I believe I could make my own repro and have fun doing it. I have some very knowledgeable machinists/welders/aviation designers and professional auto body technicians that are willing to pitch in at work and help me with this project. There is only one problem: I need to get hold of original or copies of Blue Prints for this Steib model......can anyone help me in obtaining the latter? Also, I have been trying for some time to get a repacement rear brake lever for hydraulic side car brake.....anyone out there have one for sale?

Thanks,

Pierre

Being that repro Steibs are being manufactured in Germany TR500, S350 and LS200
SOMEBODY has the blueprints. Whether they'd be willing to share is another thing
altogether.Uli's, Martin Kornhas and of course Mark Huggett all deal in Steib parts.
You can buy enough parts to assemble the whole rig! The exchange rate is also very
favorable right now so this might be the least aggravating method.

Of course you could purchase a Ural or Chiang sidcar, which are both WW2 Steib
replicas.

A third option would be to carefully measure an original Steib and reverse engineer
it.

A fouth option would be to find a Stoye or Stolz...which can look even better than a Steib,
but seem to be in less demand...probably because there aren't many repro parts.

Good luck!

BTW: If you should find the blue prints let me know.

John,

Believe it or not, the Steib replica's that are sold through BMW distributor's in US are manufactured in Poland and not Germany as we are being led to believe. The same sidecars are available through a German distributor (The Classic Bike Shop) in Leutershausen. FOB Leuttershausen, the TR500 is US$ 3500.00 compared to US$ 5500 from Blue Moon. In my case shipping would most likely be the same. I have been trying to get a quote from Mark for the past 4 months or so. Meanwhile I have made contacts with 5 Polish side car manufacturers and one Swedish. I am now trying to evaluate my options. One thing is sure is that My choice is the TR500.Any help in finding a reasonably priced TR500 from the forum crowd would be greatly appreciated.

Jon,

You can get a repro TR500 between US$3000 & 6000. This would be the basic model primed, price depending on whether you get it from manufacturer or reseller. As for an original/restored my guess would be that the range could run double depending on the quality of the restoration, then again I could be wrong!

It varies HUGELY. Expect about $2000-$3000. Repro's...at least those being sold
in the US are about $4000 without paint....plan about another $1000 for that.
