R51/3 metal fork covers

I have an 1951 R51/3 with rubber fork gaitors and leaking seals. As part of my restoration, I would like to return to the metal fork covers. Is this possible? I see the fork covers are available, but I'm wondering if all the other seals, clips, etc. are available. Where could I find information on how to make this conversion back to the metal covers? Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott
The information that you require is in the original BMW parts catalogue which covers the models R51/2; R51/3 to R68. The part number is 01 00 9 796 022. This unfortunately, is only available in German, but with the exploded diagrams and a bit of imagination, the German should not present a problem...especially if your name is "Schmidt".
Most parts are available.
Best regards,
Mark

Hi Scott,
I tried exactly the same - there was a re-building of the metal covers in South-Bavaria, but the fit was bad. So the fork covers scratched the black paint and I re-build the whole stuff...
If you have better experience, please let me know!
