Tube clamp and angle

Post by Pierre Michaud »

I have a problem trying to fit the angle (11 81 4034282) with the tube clamp (46 51
4034278). Somehow if I fit these two parts in the position shown in the drawings, the
clamp ends up on the curved part of the front cross bar. To me this does not look right.
Could you tell me if this is how BMW meant it to fit or are the drawings showing the
clamp in the wrong position and orientation ......it would make more sense to me if the
clamp was turned the other way arround and in front of the angle. Otherwise my angle
should be bent to fit flush with the clamp. My angle at the moment is at a right angles to
its base. Could you give me the dimension of the spacer tube while you are at it.
Thanks again, your wisdom and experience is much appreciated.

Hi Pierre

Yes, your observations are all very accurate and correct. As of 1960 and the /2 models, the frame tube under the main cross bar was shortened. Therefore the tube clamp must be turned around so that the tounge is at the rear, otherwise ends up in the curved part as you mentioned.

The spacer tube is exactly 17mm long.
