Needle jet numbers

Dear Mark,

Do you know what Bing means with the numbers
they printed on the needle jets? I have a 1208 and
a 2108 needle jet, but was not able to detect any
difference (with mediocre meassuring equipment
of course).

At first glance, the needle jets all look the same, but have very small differences in dimensions such as length, diameter of the bore, crosssection of the drillings on the side etc. All for the optimum atomisation of the fuel. What the numbers designate...I admit my ignorance. However, if you give me your carb number, we can tell you exactly what needle jet you require.

Thanks for the response. In the meantime I also
found that the differences are very small. I have a
'58 R69 with R69S carbs (1/26/91 and 92). So I
am curious if I should use the R69 or the R69S
settings.

I would use the R69S settings as certain components are different such as slide and needle between the R69 and R69S carbs. However, the main difference in carb setting from the R69 to R69S is due to the higher compression pistons used in the R69S. Experience has shown us that the majority of the R68 and R69 models these days have been fitted with R69S pistons anyway.
