Lightened /2 Wheel hubs

Does anyone have experience with drilling or other wise lightening and balancing /2 or plunger wheel hubs? Do you know anyone who has done ths? How much metal can be safely removed? Has anyone developed a template for this process?

I've spoke with some of the classic racing blokes here and in Germany, and all recommend that you leave the hubs alone. The rotating mass is very liitle and lightening them will not bring you anything other than weaken them.
