Ballbearing holder gearbox

Post by P.dekker »

I want to replace my ballbearing holder in the gearbox. The workshopmanual of bmw does not mension it, so does anyone have an idea how it should be removed. Should i press it out cold or should i heat the gearbox housing to about 100 C or more to get it out more easlily.
There are two sizes of holders when do I need the normal size and when the oversized one.

Best regards,

Peter

It appears that heat is required. I don't think any part of the transmission can be pressed cold.

The Workshop Manual says to heat the transmission to 180F to remove the rear cover with its gear shaft bearing holders. To re-install the gear shafts, the manual says to heat the housing to 180-210F. And the manual says to heat the housing cover to 180-210F to re-install it.
