Colour Formulation

Post by Bruce Demmer »

I am restoring a R26, 1960 model, and want to paint it the Bavarian Cream colour. Does anyone know the exact paint formulation? If so I would appreciate a reply.

Hi Bruce,

I don't know where you are located, so the following information may or may not help you.
This all refers to US spec car paints.

According to Roland Slabon's book, "Bavarian Cream" can be matched by using General Motors
paint code 59, "Frost Beige" which he says was used on 1979-1985 Buicks. I checked some
aftermarket paint supplier's books, and came up with PPG / Ditzler number 3087, which was
listed for Buicks from 1979-1982 as "Frost Beige" and from 1983-1985 as "Cream Beige".

With this code you can get paint mixed as a lacquer or synthetic enamel. Any other major
brand of automotive paint (DuPont, Sikkens, etc.) should show the same color by year and model,
or have a cross-reference to their number. The actual "formula" would vary from brand to brand.

Good luck with it! I changed my mind and stayed with black on my R26, but they sure look
pretty in Bavarian Cream!

The official industrial colour shade is "RAL 9001"
