RIm

Post by Mike Etson »

Hi,
The aluminum rim, part number 36 31 4 038 211, is listed as 2.15x18. Is that the same size as the original alloy? I'm a little confused because some steel wheels as listed as 3.0x18 and others as 2.50x18. What's the deal? I want to redo my rims in alloy. Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

The difference is the old and new way of measuring rims. a 2.15 inch rim is measured between the inside of the shoulders where the rim tape is. The same rim measures 3.00 inch when measured on the outside of the shoulders or total width.

This is a common cause of confusion.

These are the original descriptions used by BMW.

At present, alloy rims are no longer availably as the main after market manufacturer "Akront" went bankrupt last Christmas. BMW are currently analysing production of these rims, but idf they decide to go ahead, you won't see anything on the market before the next 8 to 9 months.

Best regards,
