I have a 1965 R60/2 that I purchased 6 months ago and I'm in the process
of restoring it. It has all the popular US options of the time, including wide
seat, turn signals, and US bars. The bike was unmolested when I bought
it except for turn signals, which were removed. I want to put turn signals
back on it, and I can't figure out what I need for a handlebar switch. The
right control has a circular recess where the turn signal switch would go,
with a small threaded hole in the middle and a smaller unthreaded hole
offset from that. There seem to be two turn signal switches that Mark lists
(61 31 8 048 152 and 61 31 8 048 183), plus my parts book shows an
adapter between the switch and the mount through which the wire from the
switch passes. My headlight switch on the left control is a chrome-plated
affair with two switches--a pushbutton for the horn and a toggle for the high
and low beams. What switch will fit my bike and what, if any, adapters do
I need? Any help is appreciated.

Re: turn signal switch
I have an R27 with the same chrome switch on the left. A year ago I asked Mark the same question. I will paste the exchange here. Mark's answer was to enter the part numbers into my message in red text which does not show here. Then he gave advice at the end. I finally bought used /5 armatures and new /5 switches per his last item of advice. I have not installed them yet.
---------------
Please give me some advice on ordering switches for my 1966 R27.
LHS clutch armature has moulding to receive metal Bosch switch, which I have.
RHS throttle armature is smooth with no moulding or flat.
Bike did not have turn indicators, but I want to add Hellas, which I have
bought used.
I have original type short Magura Euro bars.
If I keep my original armatures:
LHS: What is part # 61 31 8 048 162 for new metal Bosch switch?
What is part # 61 12 8 060 113 for new cable?
RHS: I understand I need Adapter 32 72 2 072 175 to mount turn indicator
switch.
What is part # 61 31 8 048 183 for new turn indicator switch?
What is part # 61 12 8 066 012 for cable?
If I wish to change to later plastic switches, which look and work better:
LHS: What is part # N/A replaced by 32 72 1 232 980 (-/5 - R90S) for new armature for plastic switch?
What is part # 61 31 8 048 195 N/A for plastic switch?
What is part # for switch housing? N/A replaced by 32 72 1 230 878 (-/5 - R90S)
What is part # for cable? 61 12 8 060 113
RHS: What is part # N/A replaced by 32 72 1 232 981 (-/5 - R90S) for new armature for plastic switch?
What is part # N/A 61 31 8 048 182 for plastic switch?
What is part # for switch housing? N/A replaced by 32 72 1 230 878 (-/5 - R90S)
What is part # 61 12 8 066 012 for cable?
As so many of the parts that you require are no longer available as NOS, repro or 2nd hand, I see only two quick solutions namely:
1. Stick to your original Magura armatures and order the following:
61 31 8 048 162 Bosch dimmer switch
61 12 8 060 113 Dimmer switch cable
61 31 8 048 183 Bosch indicator switch
61 12 8 066 012 Indicator switch cable
2. Fit complete new Magura armatures L & R for -/5 - R90S models complete with plastic Bosch switches!

Re: turn signal switch
All mid-sixties /2's had hybrid switches when bar-end signals were used. That is, the LH switch
was the chrome unit you described. The RH switch, hovever, is a black swivel switch that looks
similar to that of the /5's, but isn't. You'll need the round adaptor that mounts in the round
boss on your throttle casting. Sometime during '67 the factory went to the black switches on
both sides.

Re: turn signal switch
Thanks, Allan. Since posting this message, I've found the BMW service bulletin re: installing
turnsignals on John Lacko's website (www.beemergarage.com) and this gives a bit of
historical information. It appears that Mark now has the turnsignal switch (61 31 8 048 152)
that matches the dimmer switch (61 31 8 048 162) of the period ('65), and no longer has the
adapter (32 72 2072 175) for the intermediate switch (61 31 8 048 183).
My question now is, is an adapter required for turnsignal switch (61 31 8 048 152) to mount
it on a '65 armature ? As far as I can tell, none is required.
