I made the same enquiry regarding my '95 R80 and was told it would cost $1500 Aus and the result would be marginal. It was recomended that I ensure my battery was in good condition instead. Not what I wanted to hear!!!
The end cover of the gearbox needs to be removed so it can be machined so a bearing and seal can be fitted to take the kickstart lever.

Right, thanx. Seems a lot of trouble and money to get this good looking piece in place.

yeah...probably. Maybe you could buy a SH Gearbox already with a kickstart? A longshot I know...Who knows, you might get lucky?

A friend has recently bought an R90S with a kick start as standard-but having tried it I can tell you it is next to useless-it doesnt give enough leverage or speed to properly turn the engine for starting-stick to an electric start-and make sure thts a Bosch unit not the later French one which cannot be repaired.-the starter motors suffer from bush wear which prevents them turning the motor properly.

I have a 1974 R90S with a kickstart and find it very difficult to kick it over.
WARNING: Do not attempt to kick start and R90S with electronic ignition. The unit relies on the starter induced voltage drop to retard ignition. Kicking doesn't send the message. Kickback can be very severe and cause injuries.
